Welcome to the Brp journal
If the year 2020 taught me anything, it’s that love will always prevail. Alexis and Matt, like so many couples in love, postponed their original grand plans for a big Chicago wedding. However, that didn’t stop them from tying the knot on their original date with an intimate metro Detroit micro wedding partially held at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, MI. Even with them dealing with rainstorms throughout the day as an added curveball! Alexis and Matt ultimately promised each other forever during a summer celebration complete with their close family, beloved dog, and a semi-shared ceremony over Zoom.
Spontaneity is a common thread throughout their relationship. A few years prior Alexis moved from New York City to be with Matt in Chicago. Now they faced another big decision but again there was no doubt. Alexis even found her whimsical BHLDN wedding dress just days before their wedding without ever trying it on! On their wedding day, passing rain showers kept the summer heat at bay while Alexis and Matt both got ready at The Townsend Hotel. As soon as the blushing bride walked up to her groom their smiles were contagious. We captured their heartfelt first look in front of the venue’s sleek exterior. Then we strolled through downtown Birmingham’s gardens collecting timeless bride and groom portraits. Alexis mirrored the summer season carrying a gorgeous bridal bouquet with bright pink, peach, and cream blooms.
The day wasn’t complete without Matt’s beloved dog Lucy at their side. It was such a special moment to witness the four-legged flower girl walk down the aisle with the groom. Returning showers in the early afternoon made the spirited couple quickly pivot again to hold their Ketubah ceremony inside a family member’s garage. As quickly as it began, the skies cleared just in time to hold the rest of their ceremony outside. For me, the year 2020 was a constant reminder that love doesn’t need a flashy backdrop to be beautiful and incredibly meaningful. There wasn’t a moment during the day that Alexis and Matt stopped smiling at each other.
Even though it wasn’t the day they originally planned, to them their intimate metro Detroit micro wedding was perfect. They were over the moon to become husband and wife no matter the circumstances. Alexis and Matt, congratulations again on your marriage! You two are the kindest couple and I’m so glad we’ve become friends. You’re both incredibly smart, sweet, talented – and perfectly suited for one another. Thank you for choosing me to document such an authentic and special moment in your love story. I can’t wait to see you both, Lucy, and Lenox, next time we’re in Chicago!
